Loic's 3rd birthday!

Happy Birthday my little darling!

It's Loic's birthday today and I had been terribly busy the last week preparing for it. The bulk of my time was spent making Loic his birthday cake, a Thomas the Train Engine cake. It is the first time I try making a 3D cake and the first time using fondant. And oh my goodness was it a tough job. It took me a total of 10 hours to complete the job.

I started making the face on Thursday night, spending 4 hours in total baking 7 small chocolate cake (3 of which I brought to the office the next day) and creating Thomas' face with fondant.

Check out the face right after it was made.

Thereafter, on Saturday, I went on to baking more cake as more was required. I also had to prepare all the fondant as I had to complete the cake that evening to bring it to church the next day for the birthday celebration. I started work at about 5pm and only finished slightly passed midnight!

The steps it took to complete the process of making the cake.

When I woke up in the morning, Loic ran to me very excitedly and said "THANK YOU MUMMY for making my Thomas cake!" My helper had shown him the cake before I was up. He also happily brought his papa to the fridge to show him the cake. Loic was definitely very pleased and happily shared with everyone that his mummy made him a Thomas cake. I'm glad that even though Thomas did not turn out perfectly, to my little boy, it was special. Here's when we brought it to church to celebrate!

Chinese New Year!

This is the second year that we are spending CNY in Singapore! I can hardly believe that we have been back for two years.

Chinese new year is one of my favorite Chinese festivities are it is culturally rich and there are so many different traditions and customs for the children to experience. From traditional Chinese new year goodies like bak kwa, love letters (egg rolls), pineapple tarts etc to yusheng and lion dance, the children's senses are all highly enlightened! Laetitia and Loic are obviously soaking in all the fun stuff while being immersed in one of their ethnical roots. I have to say I am glad that the two of them are spending some foundation years here where they can experience what being a Singaporean Chinese means.

Here's the kiddies on The first day of CNY at my mum's. And on the second day at my cousin's where we had a lion dance performance.

Amazonia at Great World City

I decide yesterday that we should take the kids out somewhere fun today and after some research, decided to check out Amazonia at Great World City.

See the kids having fun!

The place is wonderful. I was going up and down the slide with them. The only downslide is that it is the priciest indoor play center in Singapore that I currently know of so it is not a place that we can go to frequently. It will definitely be a place to take the kids to for a nice little treat. :)

A family photo shoot

Finally, after all these time of staying in Singapore, we took the time to go for a simple family photo shoot.

We took the photos at Lower Pierce Reservoir. Loic was a little grouchy that morning but we did manage to capture a couple of nice pics.

Laetitia waiting for the school bus

E is away in France visiting his family and I'm the one responsible for sending Laetitia down to the guardhouse to wait for the schoolbus. As the wait could take up to 5 mins, we took a few moments to take some photos!
Laetitia with specs and Laetitia without specs. Isn't she the sweetest thing?

Loic and his school

A few months back, I changed Loic's childcare from Learning Vision to Joy Little Schoolhouse as the latter has a Chinese immersion programme.

Loic's understanding of Mandarin has improved greatly and at times he would even speak to Etienne in Mandarin! Poor E has no idea what his son is saying.

Joy Little Schoolhouse also sends the parents monthly photo gallery of the children doing their activities in school. Here's a picture of Loic!

It's been a year!

Wow! It's been a year since I last updated this blog!

Life has been busy for me. I recently started a new job that is both exciting and demanding. The kids have grown u so much though. Laetitia started CP, the French education equivalent of Primary one or grade 1! Loic has a vocabulary of almost 500 words at 2 1/2 years old. He talks so much, is still as cheeky but a little stubborn at times.

I'm enjoying my life in Singapore with the unfortunate side effect of weight gain! I have recently started a regular exercise regime and am looking to increase that and lower my calories intake to manage my weight better. I have however, started baking actively again and loves seeing the family enjoy my bakes. I am trying not to eat too much of what I bake since it is not exactly in line with my weight management goals. Ah well, I shall let others enjoy.

I am updating using the iPad and have not figured out how to upload photos but will do so soonest! there are tons of cute photos taken over the last year!
